Philippe Comairas (1803-1875), a pupil of Ingres and famous painter of the Barbizon school, who lived and died in Fontainebleau, was the founder of the town's Academy of Drawing, and it's only natural that his name should be given to the unique place dedicated to art in Fontainebleau: the Espace Comairas.
Inaugurated in 2008, this 55 m² exhibition space showcases professional artists and their paintings, engravings and sculptures. Given the success of this venue, an independent jury selects the artists who wish to exhibit there.
Each year, a call for applications is launched to discover new artists and promote the visual arts throughout Seine-et-Marne.
