Echoing the retrospective exhibition "Théodore Rousseau: the voice of the forest" at the Petit Palais in Paris, the Musée Départemental des Peintres de Barbizon is organizing this exhibition to "remember Théodore Rousseau (1812-1867)", reviving the place where he lived and worked, highlighting the power of his work and questioning the imprint left by the artist in the collective imagination after his death.

It also celebrates the pioneer defender of the Fontainebleau forest, who, with the support of many artists and intellectuals, including George Sand, obtained from the Emperor the creation of the first artistic reserve.

This exhibition invites visitors to rediscover the personality and art of Théodore Rousseau through contemporary works commissioned especially for the occasion from young artists.
