After the success of the "Grandeur Nature, 18 artists in the garden" exhibition in 2023, GRANDEUR NATURE becomes a Biennial, and for its second edition extends to the entire estate, venturing into the forest, and even into the heart of the town of Fontainebleau.
An unprecedented dialogue between the greatest contemporary artists and our heritage, and above all with the landscape, the exhibition is intended as a veritable manifesto, an ode to the creativity of today and tomorrow, while at the same time questioning our environment, its ecology and climate change.
Grandeur Nature also illustrates the Établissement Public du Château de Fontainebleau's intention to make an active contribution to the cultural life of the region, to help everyone discover or rediscover it, and to invite visitors to take a fresh look at it, guided by an unprecedented dialogue between contemporary artists and historical heritage.
Among the invited guests are some of the great names on the international contemporary scene, including Wang Keping, Subodh Gupta, Felice Varini and Pablo Reinoso, all of whom play an impressive score of monumental sculptures in harmony with the geometry of Le Nôtre's parterres, the reflections of the Grand Canal and the meandering of the labyrinth of greenery. These installations, as ephemeral as they are whimsical, reveal the beauty of the château's gardens and grounds, rediscovering their perspectives, but also highlighting their importance and fragility.
A place of history and a source of inspiration since time immemorial, the Château de Fontainebleau is now part of the 21st century. With L'esprit de la forêt, a wind of contemporary art blows across the estate and its entire territory, enchanting us for a wonderful summer.
An exhibition catalog and tour booklet with map will be available for visitors.
